ABOUT
Laura Griffith is an award winning artist living in Cowaramup, Western Australia.
Born in Perth in 1981, she graduated from Curtin University in 2002 with a BA Fine Art. Laura moved to the Margaret River Region in 2009, settling in the town of Cowaramup where she now works from her home studio.

Lauras work explores themes of emotional connection through our common experiences.

Her landscapes often feature atmospheric cloud covered skies, with a focus on colour and invoking an emotional response.

"My experiences of looking at the landscape and up at the sky, have been humbling, calming, and healing. I try to connect with these emotions within my work. Revisiting places through the process of slow, intentional painting allows me to immerse myself in the study and consideration of every detail that we often overlook during our busy modern day lives."

Lauras landscape work is comlimentary her ongoing portrait practice.

"I enjoy the contrast from exploring the expansiveness of the landscape, to the intimacy of a face. We are all just one person out of billions on this huge planet, yet we can all look up and have the shared experience of seeing the same cloud covered sky. Exploring the two styles of work keeps me interested and excited."

Lauras portraits invite the viewer to recognise something within themselves, and the shared need for human connection.

"The intimacy of studying someone so closely, and the technical challenges of achieving a likeness drive me."
